Four hours and fifteen minutes from Dubai, and you are stepping onto a seaplane pontoon. The Maldives is the most-requested honeymoon in our UAE practice for a simple reason: nowhere else delivers this level of privacy this close to home. But the gap between a good Maldives honeymoon and an extraordinary one comes down to three decisions most couples make too quickly.
Decision one: the atoll, not the resort
Couples choose a resort photograph first and discover the transfer afterwards. Reverse that order. Your atoll determines how long you travel after landing, what it costs, and whether you arrive in daylight.
North and South Malé atolls are reachable by speedboat in 20 to 45 minutes, at any hour, for a fraction of a seaplane. Baa, Noonu, and Raa atolls require a seaplane — spectacular, but daylight-only, roughly USD 600 to 900 per person return, and prone to waiting-lounge delays. The far south requires a domestic flight plus a boat.

Decision two: the villa category
Overwater is the icon, but it is not automatically the right answer. Overwater villas give you a ladder into the lagoon, total privacy, and the sound of water under the floor. Beach villas give you more space, a private pool that holds its temperature better, direct sand access, and usually a lower rate.
The couples happiest with their choice are the ones who split: three nights beach, four nights overwater. Most resorts will accommodate this and it costs less than seven overwater nights.

- Ask about lagoon depth at low tide; some villas sit over sand flats, not swimmable water
- A private pool matters more in the Maldives than almost anywhere, for shade and privacy
Decision three: the board basis
Maldives resorts are closed economies. There is no walking to a restaurant elsewhere. A half-board rate that looks reasonable can become punishing once you add lunches, water, and any drink at all.
Full board or a well-structured all-inclusive is usually the better value at the luxury tier, but read what the all-inclusive actually covers — the difference between the standard and premium beverage list is often the difference between the holiday you pictured and a running tab.
